There are two separate requirements for maintaining your status as an active medical marijuana patient in Florida. Failing to meet these requirements means losing your ability to buy low-THC cannabis and medical marijuana. Keep reading to learn all about recertification and renewal.
Patients must see their qualified physician for an examination at a minimum of every 210 days. That is roughly equal to seven months or 30 weeks. This visit is known as a recertification visit.
Be aware that the 210-day frequency is the minimum requirement under the law. However, some patients may benefit from more frequent visits based on the judgment of our physicians.
It is crucial to schedule and attend your recertification visits. If you miss your visit and the 210 day period goes by, then you will no longer meet one of the two standards for qualification. That means you will not be able to legally purchase CBD or THC products from an MMTC in Florida.
Patients and their caregivers must submit a renewal application once a year in order to maintain an active Medical Marijuana Use Registry Identification Card. Fortunately, the Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU) has created a step-by-step guide to the application renewal process. You can find instructions for a paper renewal application on the OMMU if you want to mail it.
Keep in mind that you may start a renewal application as soon as 45 days before the expiration date of your card. The expiration date is printed on the front of your current identification card.
You will also need to submit an application fee. You may be required to submit accompanying documents as well, such as a recent passport-type photograph and proof of Florida residency.
